Helen: I’m burning up in here. Russell, what’s the temperature today?

海倫：我快熱死在這裡了，拉塞爾，今天到底幾度啊？

Russell: Hmm…the weather lady said it was going to be a scorcher.

拉塞爾：嗯…天氣女郎說今天將會非常炎熱。

Helen: Can you smell that?

海倫：你有沒有聞到些怪味？

Russell: Something burning?

拉塞爾：有東西燒焦了？

Helen: The kitchen is on fire! Our dinner!

海倫：廚房起火了啦！我們的晚餐！

Russell: Oh, my beer!

拉塞爾：噢，我的啤酒！

氣溫是以華氏或攝氏度數計算。

華氏叫Fahrenheit，攝氏則有Celsius和centigrade這兩個說法：

centigrade是日常用語，Celsius則是科學界用語。

華氏溫度計(Fahrenheit thermometer)由德國人G.. D. Fahrenheit發明，

攝氏溫度計由瑞典人Anders Celsius發明，所以Fahrenheit和Celsius必須用大寫，centigrade則不用。

攝氏和華氏度數的縮寫是℃和℉。當有人問起：

What’s the temperature? (氣溫是多少？)

你可以說：It /The temperature is about 20 degrees centigrade.

(大約是攝氏20度。)

同一地區的人採用同一溫度計，是攝氏還是華氏不用說明，就可省略centigrade, Fahrenheit等字。

假如氣溫降至攝氏零度以下，那麼，你可以說X degrees below freezing/zero，例如：

It’s seven degrees below zero. (氣溫是零下七度。)

零度以下的氣溫，稱作subzero temperatures，例如：

Subzero temperatures are expected for the next couple of days.

(今後幾天氣溫，預料將降至零度以下。)

說「今天氣溫最高將升至攝氏二十度，最低將降至十五度」英文是

Today’ s high will be 20℃, and low 15℃. 或是

A temperature range of 15-20℃ is expected.

氣溫在二三十度、三四十度之間，英文說法是in the twenties, in the thirties 之類的，例如：

Tomorrow’s temperatures will be in the high thirties and low twenties.

(明天氣溫將介於二十幾度到三十幾度之間。)
